I ran into this odd concept car today and felt that they missed a lot by not building it.
We might also have missed a great car when they scrapped it ... I mean, imagine a 1,400 kg, 330 hp, mid-engined AWD sportscar from those guys?

Looks like an NSX nose, but wth is the rest of it?

I liked the look of the original MID4 concept from '85 better.
I always thought of the original as a little Japanese Ferrari.
Would've been cool if it was built with the body of the original MID4 and the powertrain of the MID4 II.

It's certainly got the prettier rear half ... and yet I felt that it looked too much like a Ferrari or Esprit, while the II looked distinctly Japanese to me. That said, the mirrors on the MID4 II look quite terrible, regardless of what era and country the car is from.

Such a ludicrous approach to the supercar. I like to imagine that in an alternate universe that the Skyline (as we know it) never happened and this was greenlit and Japan ultimately won the supercar war by beating Porsche and Ferrari (and Lamborghini) at their own game.

I would like to know how this would have turned out ... given the sheer capability marking the generations of GT-Rs, this should have been really good. What caught my eye, too, were the facts that it ignored the Japanese 280 hp ... agreement (?) which, if I do not err, was still around at this time.
Maybe Ferrari would have taken a totally different design direction due to the original MID4 ... maybe we would have another Testarossa!

When you say you "ran into it", do you mean on the internet, or were you being chased around Nissan Heritage Garage in Zama?

"Ran into it" as "read about it on a Dutch blog" ... sorry to disappoint you. ;)
I had never before heard of its existence and now I feel like I got cheated by Nissan when they decided not to produce it.
Still curious, I ran off and even found some old time-y video of it. Hooray!

A Nissan? GTFO...

Yes and no ... since they never made it.
Did you expect an actual NSX offspring?

The front clip looks a lot like the NSX so I assumed it was some design study based on that car
